My Work Environment

Around 6:15 a.m. I arrive to school and begin my day. From the moment I arrive to the moment I leave focusing on the needs of the students is my main goal. Read further to see the job commitments and roles that I play at my school.

My daily job includes teaching middle school social studies to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. With the varying grade levels and curriculum, I find that my day goes by very quickly. In addition, I am able to implement a variety of hands-on projects and interactive activities. Rarely do I go home with much energy left in me. I stay busy from morning until night but would not trade my job for another. Teaching is my passion, and I am blessed to teach at a school with wonderful co-workers, parents, and students.

Some of the activities that we complete at FBCS are not limited to the classroom. These extra activities include service projects, field trips, and the fall carnival. The students were able to enjoy a day of hands-on learning at Sci-Port followed by lunch at the Revel this year. (Picture: Bottom Middle) The fall carnival is a school-wide fundraiser that involves the entire school. I was asked to help raise money for the school by sitting in the dunking booth. The students find great excitement in "dunking" their teachers. (Picture: Bottom Left)

Each year we take our middle school students on a retreat. In the past, FBCS has been to Camp Bethany and Camp Fern. This year the students enjoyed Camp Fern because of the ropes course, zip line, pamper pole, and rock wall. These fun activities, along with basketball and team activities, provided entertainment and bonding for the entire day. The students challenged me to climb the tall pamper pole and jump off for the bar in which I would hang from. I accepted the challenge and completed the task. Thank goodness for the harness and a good bit of encouragement! (Picture: Bottom Right)

School Leadership

National Junior Honor Society

I sponsor the National Junior Honor Society which is an honor club. Students are nominated for membership based on their high academic achievement, involvement in the school, and classrom behavior. In 2013 - 2014, the chapter had 15 members. Currently, 21 members are in the chapter. The growing membership proves the high level of academic success among the students. Golf Team

I played high school golf and was recruited to play college golf at several universities. Unfortunately, Louisiana Tech did not have a female golf team. I have been able to enjoy my golf interest again since I coach the middle school golf team. The team is growing and competes in tournaments during the spring of each year. SACS/AdvancEd Accreditation Coordinator

I am working with another faculty member at my school to coordinate our accreditation through SACS/AdvancEd. We have been working since July to prepare for the formal review process in the spring. This process helps to improve our school.
